7th Annual New Year's Day 5K & I Mile

2012 rang in in a great way at Papago Park! Almost 400 people got a head start on their resolutions by coming out for the first 5K of the year.

On a day that reminded us all why we love Arizona in the winter, the weather was great - sunny and warm enough to loose the sweats by the start of the race.

Even the ducks were impressed, watching as runners and walkers crossed the finish line.  For some, this was the 7th time they've started a new year with a run, for others, this was the beginning of a new tradition.  Everyone agreed that it was a great day for a run!

9th Annual Luminaria 5K Run/Walk
Cave Creek, Arizona

The 9th Annual Cave Creek Luminaria run took place this year at the Cave Creek rodeo grounds. This is a new location, a short distance from the downtown area.
 
The weather was very cold with dark storm clouds threatening everywhere.

Over 600 participants disregarded this gloomy outlook and showed up to take part in this unique evening event. The entire 3.1 mile course is lined with hand lit luminarias. (no small task for the volunteers).

For the second year the run was ChampionChip timed, and all runners and walkers kept their timing Chip with the event logo as a souvenir. 
 
Following the run, everyone enjoyed various refreshments including Indian fry bread and chili.
